chatti ceremony

Today its your sixth day, celebrated as 'chatti ceremony' , this this is a personal ceremony performed by the family elders on the sixth day after the child's birth. the baby is dressed in new clothes. a swastiksign is made on a white cloth and also on the wall. a wooden platform called chowki is placed for puja . on this day, vighna nashak-ganpati, janmdi-janmadatri, swasti devi and jeevantika are worshipped. tika and rice is kept on four suparis placed on the chowki . an earthen diya , calledakhand diya , is lighted for 24 hours, at this altar. a piece of paper and pen are kept nearby in the belief that the goddess of destiny (bhagya vidhata) will write the destiny of the
newborn. in our house its the first time we start doing 'malish' 'vatna', there is a special pendant which belongs to my great grandfather, and is passed on to every new born down the generations.
