Diwali 2009

Its your first festival in our house, Diwali, Lakshmi poojan, as per vedas' if a child birth happens in the family , we are not suppose to celebrate festivals / perform pooja / go to temple etc for the first 40 days till 'shudhikarn havan' happens.

But, when we spoke to Di, she said that its the first time Godess Lakshmi has walked into our house in the form of baby girl and how can it be possible that we would not celebrate it.......Here we go....and we celebrated Diwali

Namkaran

Namakaran, or naming of the child, is the first real ceremony held for the newborn child. It is usually held on the twelfth day of the child's birth, we usually perform this ceremony on the shudhikarn havan, but when we spoke to pandit ji, he gave us the date of 02nd November for this pooja. we had already decided on the name 'Vishvadhika'  mommy was confused between shambhavi / vishvadhika.

Vishi bahiya liked Vishvadhika very much. Now it was very difficult to stop him telling everybody of your name before the pooja, it was almost a month to wait. So we decided to keep it any ways and do the ceremony later. Hence from today you are officially called 'VISHVADHIKA ANSHUMAN SINGH'

May god bless you and may the power be with you.

chatti ceremony

Today its your sixth day, celebrated as 'chatti ceremony' , this this is a personal ceremony performed by the family elders on the sixth day after the child's birth. the baby is dressed in new clothes. a swastiksign is made on a white cloth and also on the wall. a wooden platform called chowki is placed for puja . on this day, vighna nashak-ganpati, janmdi-janmadatri, swasti devi and jeevantika are worshipped. tika and rice is kept on four suparis placed on the chowki . an earthen diya , calledakhand diya , is lighted for 24 hours, at this altar. a piece of paper and pen are kept nearby in the belief that the goddess of destiny (bhagya vidhata) will write the destiny of the
newborn. in our house its the first time we start doing 'malish' 'vatna', there is a special pendant which belongs to my great grandfather, and is passed on to every new born down the generations.
